Epizootical geographic clusters of bovine leukemia virus infection in Japan

Sera of dairy cattle collected in Tochigi and Saitama Prefectures in 1986-1987 were examined for BLV antibody by agar gel immunodiffusion. In Tochigi Prefecture, 130 of a total of 2,279 sera were positive(mean positivity rate:5.7%), and a geographic cluster was observed in region with high positive rates(p＜0.05). In Saitama Prefecture, 65 of the 2,103 samples were positive(mean positivity rate:3.1%), showing no geographic cluster of BLV infection as observed.
