Effects of glucose on aerobic growth of S. aureus(SEA and SEB) and production of enterotoxin A and B were evaluated. In BHI broth containing 2% glucose, the population of SEA strain were reached from 3.73 to 9.40 log after 16 hours of incubation at 37℃, Wherease, SEB strain were reached from 3.68 to 12.48 log. Generation time of SEA and SEB strain were 67.29 and 16.67 minutes, respectively. The pH change in BHI broth containing 2% glucose decreased from 7.16-7.19 to 6.96-5.47 during the period. In BHI broth containing 1, 2, 4 and 8% glucose, the detected amount of enterotoxin A was 100, 10, 8 and 2ng/ml after 16 hours of incubation at 37℃, respectively, whereas that of enterotoxin A and B produced by S. aureus were 100ng/ml after 24 hours of incubation. Production of enterotoxin by SEA strain were least in the samples containing 2% glucose but SEB were no effected in 8% glucose.
