This study has for its object to put the irradiation method, an effective sterilizing way for the sanitary control of feeds, to practical use. The experiment was performed on 5-week-old SPF SD rats that were fed on irradiated diets. And the feed was exposed to 5kGy and 10kGy of γ-rays from the radioisotope cobalt-60. In consequence of the comparative method above, changes of feed ingredients exerted influence on body and organ weights, hematological values and enzyme activity of the rats. The results summarized are as follows : 1. The chemical compositions of irradiated feed, to wit, crude-protein, crude-fat, crude-ash and carbohydrate were changeless. Only the moisture content showed tendency to decrease with the increase of radiation dose. 2. Body weights of the rats fed on 10kGy diets were more increased (p<0.01) than on 5kGy diets (P<0.05). But the rats’ organ weights differed little in every experimental group. 3. The levels of packed cell volume, plasma protein, plasma albumin and plasma glucose were changeless. But plasma globulin level decreased significantly while plasma lipid level had a tendency to increase in rats on irradiated diets. 4. Plasma GOP and GPT activities brought out no differences, while ALP and LDH activity showed more of less changes in rats fed on irradiated diets.
