This study was attempted to investigate pathogenicity for cat infected with Toxoplasma gondiicyst from heart muscle of slaughtered pigs in latent infection. Oocysts from cats fed heart muscle of pigs were identified as Toxoplasma gondii by morphological, biological and serological examination. Clinical signs were anorexia, diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, and dyspnea developing a few days prior death. There was leukopenia with a moderate shift to the left. Gross appearances were included edema of lungs with irregular spots of consolidation, hydrothorax, ascites, cloudy swelling of liver, swelling of mesenteric Iymphnodes, and swelling of eyes in a few kittens. Histologically, lesions of brain were characterized as areas of focal gliosis, dilated Virchow-Robin space, degeneration of nerve cells, and found Toxoplasma cyst in few cases. Multifocal necrosis of liver and diffuse necrosis of mesenteric Iymphnodes were seen in most of kittens infected with Toxoplasma. Lesions in lungs were proliferation of alveolar epithelial cells with mononuclear cells and bronchopneumonia. There were infiltration of mononuclear cells and necrosis in heart muscle, and desquamation or necrosis of epithelial cells of intestine.
