Studies on the pathogenicity of verotoxin-producing escherichia coli

This study were carried out to develope the sensitive method for detection of low level verotoxin 2 (VT2) in clinical samples. The affinity of binding of verotoxin to globotriosyl ceramide(Gb3) was greatly Increased when the glycolipid was presented in a liposomal format. This was found to be particulary true for VT2 and therefore developed a receptor binding enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(RELISA) based on the presentation of Gb3 in such a liposomal format which is capable of detecting VT2 at the sensitivity required to be effective in clinical samples. The Gb3 and Globotetraosyl ceramide (Gb4) have been affinity for some toxin, bacteria, virus, drug and interferon, therefore, the development of RELISA by use of these receptor may be useful for diagnosis of disease and detection of low level component.
