When examined the feces of 600 racing horses, yersiniae were isolated from 55 horses (9.2%). Out of 55 isolates, 33 isolates (60%) were Yersinia enterocolitica and 15 (27.3%) were Y. intermedia and 7 (12.7%) were Y. kristensenii. Out of 33 isolates of Y. enterocolitica, the predominant biotype was 1 comprising of 26 isolates (78.8%) and followed by biotype 2, comprising of 7 isolates (21.2%). The predominant serotype was 0 : 21 comprising of 20 isolates (60.6%) and followed by 0 : 5 comprising of 6 isolates (18.2%), 0 : 1 and 0 : 6 comprising of 1 isolate (3.0%), respectively. Yersiniae were resistant to cephalothin(96.4%), carbenicillin(94.5%), ampicillin(92.7%), but susceptible to polymyxin B(96.3%), tetracycline(98.2%), chloramphenicol(98.2%), streptomycin(98.2%), neomycin(100%), tobramycin(100%), kanamycin(100%), colistin(100%), gentamicin(100%) and nalidixic acid(100%). The predominant isolates of multiple antimicrobial resistance patterns were CF-AM (44 isolates : 81.5%). Of 4 in vitro pathogenicity tests(CRMOX, autoagglutination, calcium dependence and congo red absorption test) with 55 yersiniae, 8 strains(24.2%) of Y. enterocolitica were positive for only autoagglutination test, but others were negatives.
