The hematological values were examined from 518 healthy elk imported from USA and Canada. They were grouped for comparison according to age, season, sex and country. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. Mean±SD Values and ranges of red blood cell(RBC) count were 10.3±1.2×10⁶/μl and 5.7~23.8×10⁶/μl, of hemoglobin(Hb) content 16.4±1.8g/100ml and 7.0~24.7g/100ml, of packed cell volume (PCV) 45.0±5.1% and 21.7~68.8%, of mean corpuscular volume(MCV) 43.9±3.7ml and 22.0~55.0ml, of mean corpuscular hemoglobin(MCH) 16.8±1.3pg and 7.3~20.1pg, of mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) 36.7±3.9% and 19.2~72.7%, of platelet(PLT) 227.8±95.1×10³/μl and 18.0~619.0×10³/μl, and of white blood cell(WBC) 5.3±1.4×10³/μl and 2.0~13.0×10³/μl, respectively. 2. There were small decreases in RBC, but increases in Hb, PCV, MCV, MCH, MCHC and WBC values with increasing age. 3. The hematological values in winter are higher than the total average blood values of elk(Table 1), and among them were Hb, MCV, MCH, and MCHC values in winter higher then those in any other seasons. 4. Hb, PCV, MCV, and MCH values of males were higher than those of females, but WBC value is much higher in female elks. 5. RBC, Hb, PCV, MCV, MCH, and MCHC values of Canadian elks were higher than those of USA, however PLT and WBC values were opposite.
