Response of Some Blood Parameters to Sampling Technique in Rats

Clinical pathology testing in non-clinical toxicity and safety studies is an important part of safety assessment. We sought to study if there were any difference in the results of clinical pathology tests among orbital venous plexus(OVP), heart and posterior vena cava(PVC) in rats anesthertized with CO₂ and ether. White blood cell counts was significantly higher in blood samples collected from OVP as compared with heart. Total protein and glucose were significantly higher in rats anesthetized with ether as compared with rats with CO₂. Comparing the bleeding sites and anesthesia in non-clinical toxicity test, drawing blood from OVP in the rats under CO₂ anesthesia was reliable method.
