This present study was conducted to confirm the intestinal colonization sites of Listeria monocytogenes in mouse. For this purpose L. monocytogenes were inoculated on the oral route of SPF ICR mice. To confirm the cecal colonization sites of L. monocytogenes the cecal tissues were examined by light microscopy after H-E, Gram’s and immunohistochemical staining and by transmission electron microscopy at 8, 12, and 24 hrs after bacterial inoculation. Bacterial clumps were found in intestinal glands and/or goblet cells at 8 hrs after inoculation, and the highest population of colonizing bacteria was found in crypts at 24 hrs. The colonization sites were strongly positive for L. monocytogenes by avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex.
