Immune regulatory and antitumor effect of ramaria botrytis extract

This study was carried out to investigate the antitumor activity of Ramaria botrytis(RB) extract on melanoma Bl6 cell line and its antitumor mechanism on various immune responses. RB extract-feeding increased the footpad swelling reaction and antibody production of mice against SRBC. On the immune responses of mice splenocytes to Con A stimulation, RB extract significantly augumented the production of MIF and IL2 and T cell proliferation in normal and B16 implanted mice. When mice splenocytes were activated with mitogen SAC, RB extract feeding on IgG production and B cell proliferation increased. On the phagocytic activity of mice, RB extract groups were more augumented time and dose-dependent increase than control group. According to the RB feeding for mice, NK cell activities of mouse splenocytes largely rised. These responses were due to the increment of binding affinity of effector cells to target cells and lytic activity of effector cells against target cells. Also, RB feeding for B16 implanted-mice raised the level of NK cell activities to that of normal control group. RB extract significantly inhibited the tumorigenesis of B16 cell In mice. These results led to the conclusion that because of the marked enhancement on various immune responses, RB extracts contained the potent antitumor action.
