The Current Status of the Green Campus Promotion in Korea - Review on Systematical Assistance and Survey about Universities Implementation -

In order to offer the fundamental data and suggest the promotion methods for the green campus, this study aims to comprehend the current status of the green campus promotion in Korea and analyse background factors of it through a review of the systematical assistance and a survey about the implementation of universities in the whole country. About the current status of the systematical assistance, we reviewed the related current regulations, organizations, and supporting projects for green campus. The study developed the survey instrument through the literature review about the former studies and the evaluation elements of the green campus supporting project by the Ministry of Environment. A survey was proceeded through the electronic official letter and online questionnaire including 72 implementation elements. As results, the portion of implementing universities among total 92 respondents was 2.2~72.8(average 22.3)% each element, and the number of implemented elements was 0~53(average 16.1) each university. These show that the level of domestic university’s implementation was low. The background factors of implementation status were analyzed as the systematical obligation, fulfilling of the green campus supporting project, and the will of university’s executives, and etc. Therefore, this study concluded that amendment and establishment of the related systematical assistance, the perception diffusion about sustainability, the active fulfilling of supporting project are necessary in order to promote green campus in Korea.
