This paper deals with the incidence of dermatophytosis in 14 farms(1,205 goats) and the causative agent and the skin mycofloras of 17 healthy and 33 diseased Korean native goats from Gyeongbuk, Korea between 1995 and 1996. Specimens of hair and scale, collected from skin lesions and normal skins were inoculated on potato dextrose agar and mycobiotic agar supplemented with thiamine and inositol. The agar plates were incubated at 30℃ for 3 weeks. Growing fungi were isolated and identified by the morphological, biological and nutritional characteristics. Nine farms(64%) and 33(2.7%) of goats were found to have dermatitis. Lesions were found on the back, hind legs and bottom of both horn with crusty patch of alopecia. The causative agents of the dermatophytosis were Trichophyton verrucosum(7 farms, 10 goats) and Trichophyton tonsurans(3 farms, 5 goats). The dermatophytosis by Trichophyton tonsurans was first found in goats. Twenty-eight genera were collected during this investigation and the most common genera were Cladosporium(84%), Trichophyton followed by Aspergillus(68%), Penicillium(50%), Alternaria(46%), Absidia(44%), Fusarium(42%), Curvularia(40%) and yeast(40%).
