Brucellosis is one of the major zoonosis and also known of its considerable economic impact slaughtering several hundreds of dairy cattle every year in the Republic of Korea. Since ‘test and slaughter strategy’, so far, does not include Korean indigenous cattle which is the most part of the cattle in Korea, it may be difficult to eradicate bovine brucellosis in Korea. The purpose of the present study, as a part of basic study for making Korean indigenous cattle included in the national eradication program, is to observe the immunological reaction by Brucella spp. and Yersinia enterocolitica. The immunized sera of Korean indigenous cattle against Brucella abortus 1119-3, B. melitensis biotype 2, and Yersinia enterocolitica 0:9 whole cell antigen were collected and evaluated their immunological reactions against each antigen in the Western blot, the tube agglutination test(TAT), the complement fixation test(CFT), the latex agglutination test(LAT), and the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Brucella abortus 1119-3 whole cell antigen positively reacted with immune sera against both B. abortus 1119-3 and B. melitensis biotype 2 in all serodiagnosis tested in this study, whereas it did not cross react between Y. enterocolitica 0:9 immune sera which exclusively reacted with 42kDa band in the Western blot, suggesting its usefulness as a future diagnostic tool in Korean indigenous cattle. As B. melitensis biotype 2 antigen weakly reacted with all the tested immune sera in all the method performed except ELISA, where B. melitensis biotype 2 antigen definitely cross reacted with B. abortus 1119-3 immune sera.Y. enterocolitica 0:9 whole cell antigen reacted with Y. enterocolitica immune sera and B. abortus immune sera in Western blot, TAT, and ELISA.
