Prevalence of salmonella spp., escherichia coli 0157: H7 and listeria monocytogenes in fresh feces and in drinking water of feedlots

The present study conducted to evaluate the frequency of recovery of Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes in fecal and drinking water samples collected from 33 feedlots in Chinju area. Salmonella spp. were isolated from 8.5% of 165 fecal samples, and 36.4% of the feedlots participating in the study had at least one positive fecal sample. On the other hand, the rate of isolation of Salmonella spp. from drinking water samples was 9.1%, and this organism present in 21.2% of the feedlots tested. However, E. coli O157:H7 and L. monocytogenes were not found in the feces and drinking water samples collected from all feedlots. According to serotype of Salmonella spp., C1 group was serotype (43.5%) most frequently encountered in 23 Salmonella detected and following group were B, C, D and A.
