Ivermectin is widely used as antiparasitic agents because of its remarkably potent and broad spectrum of antiparasitic activity. Although the drug has shown excellent anthelmintic effects, development of toxicosis in some animals such as the Collie species of dog is well documented. However, no studies have been reported on the toxic effects of the drug in Korean native the Jindo dog. In this study, the toxicities of ivermectin was evaluated in 25 Jindo dogs divided into five groups which were orally administered with ivermectin at dosage levels of 200 ㎍/kg, 300 ㎍/kg, 600 ㎍/kg, and 2, 500 ㎍/kg of body weight, respectively. Histopathological changes of varying degrees in the liver included diffuse congestion, fatty change, focal necrosis of hepatocytes, mild disassociation of hepatic cord, and perilobular regeneration. There were moderately diffuse congestion of glomerular tufts, mild degeneration and pyknosis of convoluted tubular epithelium.
