It is necessary to reduce the costs of livestock production including of disease losses for maintenance on good management of the pig production farm. The present study was conducted to determine the respiratory infection rates and antimicrobial susceptibility of major respiratory pathogens such as Pasteurella multocida, Streptococcus suis, and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae in pigs during the period between September and October 1999. Two hundred-twenty-four lungs (30.3%) of 740 lungs showed coinfection of Mycoplasma and any other bacterial pathogens. Two hundred-thirty-three microorganisms were isolated from 244 coinfected lungs. Out of 233 isolates, 121 isolates were P. multocida, 102 were S. suis, and 10 were A. pleuropneumoniae, so the isolation rates of each pathogens were 16.4%, 13.8% and 1.4%, respectively. In antimicrobial susceptibility tests of isolates, most of isolates were susceptible to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, ampicillin, ceftiofur, cefalothin, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, gentamycin, lincomycin/spectinomycin, neomycin, and norfloxacin.
