임진왜란 안골포해전의 역사적 의미와 기억 방안

Historical Perspectives and the remembrance of on the Sea Battle in Angolpo Bay during the Imjin War

2012년은 임진왜란이 일어난 지 7주갑이 되는 해이다. 전국의 임진왜란 유적지 별로 임진왜란을 기억하기 위한 많은 행사가 개최되었다. 조선시대에 웅천현으로 불렸던 오늘날 진해에도 임진왜란 시기 많은 해전들이 벌어졌고 관련 유적들이 다수 남아 있다. 임진왜란 역사를 기억하고 전유적지들을 홍보하고 복원하는 사업은 후손으로서 마땅히 해야 할 일들이다. 이런 이유로 안골포해전을 중심으로 그 역사적 의미를 살펴보고 기억방안을 제시해 보았다. 임진년(1592)에 있었던 안골포해전은 일본의 정예수군 2명이 지휘하고 있던 일본수군의 전선 42척을 맞아 이순신이 주도적으로 지휘한 조선수군이 절반 이상의 적선을 분멸시킨 큰 승리였다. 이 해전에서 패한 일본군은 남해상을 통한 수륙병진전략이 무산되는 엄청난 타격을 입었다. 정유년(1597)에 같은 장소에서 조선수군은 또 한 번의 승전을 이룩하였다. 이것은 조선수군이 부산지역으로 진출하기 위해서는 반드시 진압해야 하는 일본군 주둔 요충지에 대한 공격전이었다. 비록 조선 조정의 오판에 의해 이후의 해전에서 패해 그 의미가 퇴색되었지만, 이 해전 역시 임진왜란 시기 조선수군의 승전사에 당당히 이름을 올릴 수 있는 해전이다. 통제사 원균이 종합 지휘한 해전 중 가장 전과가 큰 해전이기도 하다. 이러한 중요한 해전이 있었던 지역임에도 불구하고 이를 기억하고 기념하는 노력은 부족하였다. 특히 임진년의 안골포해전은 한산대첩의 한 축임에도 불구하고 한산도해전에 비해 너무나 등한시 되었다. 안골포해전에 대해서는 기념비 한개도 건립되어 있지 않다. 진해는 다른 어느 지역보다도 많은 해전들이 벌어진 곳이다. 충분히 잘 기억하고 기념해야 하는 당위성을 확보할 수 있다. 임진년 7주갑을 기념하고 이 해전들의 역사적 의미를 기억하는 방안을 구체적으로 마련해 나가야 할 것이다.

It has been for 420 years that the Imjin War happened. There were many activities and academic conferences throughout Korea to commemorate the bandit war against invading Japanese troops in 1592 to 1598 (Imjin War). Jinhae city, the previous name of Ungcheon-hyun(熊川縣) during Joseon period had many sea battles during the Imjin War, and many relics and hot spots of Jinhae(Ungcheon)are left over the war. People living today should remember the history and commemorate for the fiercest war field of Jinhae city. Therefore, I would like suggest perspectives of historical researches and as well as plans not to forget. Angolpo(安骨浦) Sea Battle happened in 1592. Admiral, Yi Sun-sin had the control of the Joseon naval forces against the two core Japanese naval chiefs with 42 warships, and Joseon’s Naval Forces under the Admiral Yi Sun-sin defeated the more than half of the enemy forces with unfavorable situation. Hence, the ultimately failed Japanese troops could not advance up any farther to the north through the Southern (Yellow)Sea. Jinhae city is the most crucial spot of the sea battles, however there is lack of efforts on neither of studying nor activities to remember for the battle. Furthermore, Anagolpo Sea Battle was the head way towards for the Hansando(閑山島) sea battle, but still it does not come up for discussion yet. There is even no monument for the Angolpo Sea Battle. Jinhae had sea battles more than any other cities during the Imjin War. Its achievement is fully enough to be commemorated. It should come first for the year of the 7th traditional cycle of sixty of the Imjin War and give the exact plans to remember the Sea Battle of Angolpo Bay.
