한국전쟁 중 ‘악극인 밀항 사건’과 환향의 기억술

Entertainers’ stowaway affair during the Korean war and the distortion of their memories to return home

이 논문은 한국전쟁 중 악극인 밀항 사건(1952)을 해방 후 문화인의 탈국경적 이동의 한 사례로서 재구성하고, 사건의 당사자들이 대중문화계의 원로로서 공적인 장에서 이 사건을 어떻게 기억하고, 어떠한 관점에서 서술하고, 어떠한 사건으로 구성했는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 특히 작곡가 손목인의 사례에서, 그가 자기 생애의 서술에서 불법 밀입국이라는 금지된 횡단을 어떻게 선택적으로 기억하고 해석하는지를 비판적으로 검토한다. 밀항 사건 당시와 사후의 기억 사이의 틈새를 통해, 이 논문은 국가나 민족, 이념을 초월한 개인의 욕망을 억압하고 반공 이데올로기의 수호자로서 스스로를 자리매김해야 했던 냉전 하 남한 대중연예인의 역사적 존재 조건에 대해 성찰하는 계기를 마련하고자 한다.

This article investigates a South Korean entertainers’ stowaway affair in the midst of the Korean War, as an example of cross-border migrations in postcolonial Korea. It examines the ways in which a group of people ―who were directly involved in that affair, yet have later achieved a good reputation in the public and been recognized as seniors in the community of popular musicians in South Korea― remembered and reconstructed that affair in their biographical writing. In particular, this article focuses on the case of composer Sohn Mok-In ; how he selectively remembers and interprets the forbidden crossing-border in his autobiography. By examining the gap between history and memory, this article intends to provide an opportunity for consideration on the historical existence of South Korean entertainer, who had to suppress his/her own desire beyond country, nation and ideology and establish himself/herself as a guardian of anti-communist ideology in the Cold War.
