김춘수 초기시의 멜랑콜리 연구

A study on the melancholy in Kim, Chun-soo’s early poems

본 논문은 김춘수 초기시에 자주 등장하는 슬픔과 눈물, 고독과 허무와 같은 시어들이 산발적으로 연구된 기존 경향을 반성적으로 검토한 끝에 이들을 보편적인 수준에서 다룰 수 있는 새로운 관점이 필요하다는 점에 착목하였다. 이러한 관점에서 김춘수 초기시를 새로이 주목하기 위한 방법론적 시각으로 멜랑콜리 담론을 제시하였다. 특히 발터 벤야민의 관점을 원용하며 알레고리와 멜랑콜리의 상호 관계에 주목해 연구의 관점을 확보하였던바, 폐허에 대한 인식과 구원에 대한 희망이 알레고리 담론으로 해석 가능하고, 인간의 필멸성에서 오는 부정적인 감정에 대한 새로운 해석을 가능하게 하는 것이 멜랑콜리 담론이라는 것이다. 김춘수는 역사와 사회를 시에서 탈각시켰다는 말을 자주 하였지만 이는 오히려 그가 역사와 사회의 압박을 강하게 느꼈다는 것으로 해석될 수 있다. 그는 역사의 폭력과 그 앞에서 나약한 개인으로서 수치심과 부끄러움을 느꼈던 까닭에 슬픔과 우울로 대변되는 멜랑콜리를 경험할 수밖에 없었던 것이다. 폐허를 만드는 역사의 폭력이 일상적으로 경험되는 것이 김춘수 초기시에서 자주 확인할 수 있는 특징이거니와 그로 인해 발생하는 슬픔과 눈물은 멜랑콜리의 이중성을 통해 새로이 해석될 가능성이 제기된다. 김춘수 초기시에 자주 등장하는 슬픔과 눈물과 같은 부정적인 기운을 내포하는 시어들은 당시 상황에 대한 판단과 반응의 끝에 산출된 결과이다. 그런 의미에서 이 시기 시를 멜랑콜리의 이중성, 곧 해로운 멜랑 콜리와 긍정의 영웅적 멜랑콜리로 나누어 고려할 여지가 충분히 있음이 어느 정도 해명되는 것이다. 어둡고 힘든 시기인 까닭에 불안과 슬픔을 느낄 수밖에 없었으나 그럼에도 그러한 감정상태가 잉태하고 있는 것은 불안과 슬픔을 넘어설 수 있는 상태에 대한 기대와 희망이다. 이러한 기대와 희망이 불안과 공포도 견딜만한 것으로 만든다. 기대와 희망의 강인함이 도래할 미래에 대한 전망을 지닌 채 절망을 극복할 수 있는 용기를 선사하는 것이다.

This paper focuses on the need for a new viewpoint on the research on the Kim, Chun-soo’s early poems that can reflect them on a universal level after reflection on the sporadic researches of sorrows such as sadness, tears, loneliness in his poems. From this point of view, the melancholy discourse was suggested as a methodological viewpoint to pay attention to the early poems of his. In particular, I have taken Walter Benjamin s point of view and focused on the relationship between the allegory and the melancholy and secured the viewpoint of the study. I expect that the hope of salvation and perception of ruins can be interpreted as the allegory discourse, and the melancholy discourse enables a new interpretation of negative emotions from human mortality. Kim Chun-soo often said that he had taken history and society out of his poems, but it could be interpreted that he felt the pressure of history and society. He was forced to experience melancholy, which was characterized by sorrow and depression because of the violence of history and the shame as a weak individual in front of the history and the society. The everyday experience of the violence of history making ruins is a characteristic that is often found in Kim Chun - soo s early poetry, and the sadness and tears caused by it are raised by the duality of melancholy. The poetic words, which contain negative emotions such as sadness and tears that often appear in the early days of Kim Chun-soo, are the result of judgments and reactions to the era. In this sense, it is somewhat clear that there is enough room to consider the poetry of this period as the duality of melancholy, the harmful melancholy and the positive heroic melancholy. It was a dark and difficult time for him to feel anxiety and sadness, yet the conception of such an emotional state is the expectation and hope of a state that can transcend anxiety and sorrow. The toughness of expectation and hope has the prospects for the future and offers the courage to overcome despair.
