Purpose - The purpose of this study is to analyze whether the efficiencies of the industry-university cooperation group vary from university characteristics. Industry- university cooperation group is playing a big role in technological innovation of Korean universities. In order to establish a system for the practical activation of industry-academia cooperation, it is necessary to seek evaluation of the performance of industry-academia cooperation. Research design, data, and methodology -This study used 525 data from 175 universities for three years from 2013 to 2015 using University Alert data of university information disclosure. The efficiency of industry-academia cooperation was calculated through DEA analysis. In this study, the input variables are the number of full-time professor, the number of employees, the research funds of the university, and the operating cost. The output variables are number of International specialist journal, number of Domestic specialist journal, number of domestic patent applications, number of domestic patent registrations, number of overseas patent applications, number of overseas patent registrations, and Technology import royalties. Results - The size of university affects efficiency of the industry-university cooperation group and that was statistically significant. And the location of university affects efficiency of the industry-university cooperation group and that was statistically significant. But operation types(public or private) could not affect efficiency of the industry-university cooperation group. And in order to increase the efficiency of the industry-university cooperation group, it is important to identify the factors that affect the efficiency of industry-university cooperation group. As a result, the factors affecting the efficiency of the industry-university cooperation group are as follows: Operating Costs, Research funds, Number of Staff, Domestic Professional Journals, Domestic Patent Application and Overseas Patent Application. Conclusion - These results suggest that small and medium-sized local universities strive to improve efficiency. This study is expected to identify the current status of Academic Cooperation and provides basic information needed to establish the desired role of the industry-university cooperation group. In addition, the results of this study are expected to help identify the factors that must be managed by the university to focus on the competitiveness of Academic Cooperation.
