칸트와 메를로-퐁티의 초월철학

Kant’s and Merleau-Ponty’s Transcendental-philosophy

이 글의 목적은 칸트로부터 유래한 초월철학의 전통 속에 메를로-퐁티를 위치지음과 동시에 메를로-퐁티의 초월철학이 칸트의 그것과 변별되는 차이를 명시하고, 그 의의를 지적해 보고자하는데 있다. 이를 위해 본론에서는 먼저 두 사람 철학의 근간을 이루는 방법론(‘코페르니쿠스적 전회’와 ‘현상학적 환원’)을 제시한 뒤 잇달아 의식의 초월성과 몸의 초월성, 양자가 제시하는 도식론(‘상상력의 도식’과 ‘몸의 도식’), ‘경험’과 ‘자기의식’에 대한 개념의 차이를 양자 간의 비교 지점으로 구성해 보았다. 칸트는 순수한 의식 내부에서 초월적인 차원을 찾지 만, 메를로-퐁티는 그와 같은 의식 이전에 몸의 심급에서 초월적인 차원을 찾는다. 칸트에게 ‘초월적인 것’은 경험에 앞서 있으면서 경험을 가능하게 하는 반성적이고 형식적인 의식을 의미한다면, 메를로-퐁티에게 그것은 그러한 의식보다 더 근원적인 차원에서 고유한 몸이 세계를 향해 열려 있다는 것을 의미한다. 이러한 논의를 통하여 현상학 탄생으로의 길을 예비했던 칸트와 프랑스 현상학을 대표하는 사람 중 하나인 메를로-퐁티의 철학 사이의 연속과 단절을 가늠해 보고자 한다.

The purpose of this paper lies in trying to situate Merleau-ponty’s thought in the tradition of the transcendental philosophy that originates from Kant and at the same time to specify the difference of thoughts of them and what’s the meaning of it. For this purpose, we present the methode that bases these two philosopher’s thought (‘Corpernicusian turn’ and ‘Phenomenological Reduction’), and after that, we construct as the point of comparison the transcendentality of consciousness and that of perception, Schematisms(‘schema of imagination’ and ‘schema of body’), the concepts of experience and of self-consciousness. Kant seeks the transcendental dimension in a pure consciousness, but Merleau-ponty does in the instance of the body before that consciousness. The ‘transcendental’ means, for Kant, the reflective and formal consciousness that is a priori and makes experience possible. But for Merleau-Ponty, it means the opening to the world of the proper body that is more original than that consciousness. Through this discussion, this paper would figure out the (dis)continuity between Kant and Merleau-ponty.
