레비스트로스에 있어 야만의 지혜와 신화적 서사에 대한 철학적 고찰

A philosophical study on the wisdom of savage and the mythical epic of Levi Strauss

레비스트로스 하면 바로 구조주의를 떠올릴 정도로 그의 이론에서 구조주의적 방법론을 빼고 그의 생각의 편린(片鱗)이라도 언급한다는 것은 불가능에 가깝다고 할 수 있다. 하나의 이론으로써 구조주의가 20세기에 던진 문제의식이 충분히 매력적이긴 하지만 이 세상 그 어디에도 완벽한 것은 없듯이 구조주의 또한 세상을 바라보는 하나의 관점임에는 부정할 수 없다. 따라서 이번 연구는 레비스트로스가 원시문화를 구조주의적 관점에서 보고자 한 의도와 현대 문명을 향해 말하고자 한 것이 무엇이었는가를 철학적인 각도에서 생각해 보고자 하는 것이 기본 목적이라고 할 수 있다. 인간의 자유를 지나치게 주관적 자의로 해석하거나 객관성을 실증성이라는 협소한 의미에 가두어 버렸던 20세기 철학적 조급함에 레비스트로스는 무언의 메시지를 던지고 있는 것이다. 이 메시지의 핵심을 지혜 (sophia)와 관련해서 분석해 보고자 하는 것이 본 연구의 두 번째 방향이라고 볼 수 있다. 서구적 사상사의 틀에서 보면 인류의 역사를 Chaos에서 Cosmos(Mythos-→Logos)로의 진행과정으로 보고 있는데, 레비스트로스는 이러한 구분을 비웃기라 도 하듯이 이 전체를 관통해 나가고 있는 보편사적 정신에 관해 마치 존재론적 언질이라도 하듯 수많은 신화소들의 다양한 지칭관계를 펼쳐 보인다. 결국 레비스트로스는 보편사적 정신의 근거로서 신화들의 관계망을 하나의 구조적 논리로 말하고자 하는 것이다.

A reference to Levis Strauss is almost impossible to mention even a bite of his ideas without the structural methodology from his theory, which is enough to raise structural principles immediately. As a theory, structuralism is attractive enough, but structuralism can not deny that it is a view of the world, as nowhere else in the world is perfect. Therefore, the study is based on the philosophical view of Levi Strauss s intention to view primitive culture from a structural point of view and what he meant to say about modern civilization. Levi Strauss is sending a silent message to the philosophical haste of the 20th century, which interpreted human freedom too summarily as subjective or trapped objectivity in the narrow meaning of positivity. The second direction of this study is to analyze the core of this message in relation to wisdom. From the framework of Western thought history, we see human history as a process of thinking about Chaos to Cosmos, as if it were about the entire line of human beings, but Levi Strauss laughs at this entire distinction. In the end, Levi Strauss intends to use one structural logic to describe the network of myths as the basis of the universal historical spirit.
