It is said that the 21st Century is the era of community. Here the community means the village as the most general communal life unit of humankind. As statism and capitalism can not give humankind proper alternatives in spite of the heightening anxiety and the deepening uncertainty of the future, humankind cannot help but seek an alternative in village community. However, in the situation that the system of the village has been severely destroyed in the course of the growth of statism and capitalism, there is a doubt of how the village can be an alternative to solve the problems caused by the statism and capitalism. Moreover, most villages around world have been in very difficult situations by continuous resource depletion. This article tries to show the importance of village. Also, it seeks to use the merits of urbanization, information, and globalization. If villages of rural and urban areas, capital areas and provinces, and developed and developing countries are connected through information networks etc., those will be strengthened much more. Especially, this article suggests villiology, which means the new approach of the village study, as a way to find the true values of villages and make full use of those. Villiology will greatly contribute to revitalizing and sustaining villages all around the world through interdisciplinary research.
