Parents’ Stimulating Children’s Learning and Schooling: The Role of Parental Beliefs

아동의 학습과 학교 교육에 있어서 부모의 영향: 부모 신념의 역할을 중심으로

아동의 학습과 학교 교육을 위한 부모의 행동을 결정 짓는 중요한 요소 중 하나로서, 부모의 신념이 본 연구에서 주요하게 탐구되었다. 부모의 신념과 관련된 선행연구를 검토함으로써 부모의 신념과 자녀의 학습 및 학교 교육, 부모의 신념과 관련된 부모의 행동 사이의 관계가 탐구되었다. 본 연구에서 분석한 결과, 부모의 신념은 자녀의 양육과 관련된 다양한 부모의 인식 및 아이디어 구성에 영향을 미칠 뿐 아니라, 부모 행동의 근원을 제공하는 것으로 나타났다. 뿐만 아니라, 부모의 신념은 자신의 자녀 양육행동에 대한 평가에 영향을 미치고, 자녀의 인지적, 사회적 발달에 직간접적인 영향을 미침으로써 부모와 자녀에게 잠재적인 영향을 주요하게 미치고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 아동의 성격 형성, 특히 아동이 학습하는 방식에 대한 신념은 아동의 학습 능력을 향상시키려는 부모의 행동과 직접적으로 관련이 있다는 다수의 선행 연구결과들을 찾을 수 있었다. 아동이 학습하는 방식에 대한 부모의 신념이 부모의 행동에 미치는 결정적인 영향력을 고려할 때, 자녀의 학습과 관련된 양육 행동에 적절하게 개입할 수 있기 위하여, 부모의 신념 체계가 고려된 부모 교육 및 중재프로그램이 고안되어져야 할 필요가 있겠다. 이러한 연구결과는 아동의 발달 수준에 발맞춘 적절한 수준의 학습지원과 자기주도적인 학습태도를 길러줄 수 있는 부모의 행동양식을 지원하는 부모의 신념 체계를 형성할 수 있도록 지원하는 부모교육 프로그램 개발에 기초를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

As an important determinant of parental practices for children’s learning and schooling, parental beliefs were considered. A review of the relevant literature revealed and enabled the exploration of the connection between what parents think and their behaviors regarding their children’s learning. Working from this review, the present study underscores that parental beliefs have a potentially great impact on parents and children through the functions of organizing perceptions and ideas, providing a source of parenting behaviors, affecting parents’ appraisal of their own parenting, and influencing the cognitive, social, and personality development of children. Specifically, many researchers have reported that beliefs regarding how children learn are directly related to parental behavior intended to improve children’s learning. Given the critical influence of parental beliefs regarding how children learn on parental behaviors, interventionists should consider parental belief systems in order to intervene successfully in parenting behaviors related to children’s learning.
