외국인직접투자의 생산성 및 고용 파급효과 분석

The Employment and Productivity Spillover-effect of Foreign Direct Investment

본 논문은 2001년부터 2010년까지 한국신용평가정보(KISVALUE)에 등록된 168개 산업, 1,871개 기업을 대상으로 외국인직접투자의 생산성 및 고용 파급효과를 분석하였다. 추정시 발생하는 독립변수의 내생성 문제를 해결하기 위해 Arellano and Bover(1995)와 Blundell and Bond(1998)가 제안한 System GMM을 이용하여 추정하였다. 분석결과 생산성파급효과의 경우 외국 인지분율이 유의한 양(+)의 값을 가지는 것으로 분석되었으며 외국인지분율 이 1%p 상승하면 기업의 부가가치는 0.9〜1.4% 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 전산업을 모두 포함시킨 경우 산업내 및 산업간(전․후방 연쇄효과) 파급효과가 모두 존재하는 것으로 분석되었으며 전방연쇄효과를 나타내는 계수값이 0.12 이상으로 도출되어 후방산업(upstream)에 FDI가 1% 증가하면 전방산업 (downstream)에 해당하는 기업의 부가가치는 0.12% 이상 증가하는 것으로 나타나 전방연쇄효과가 큰 것을 알 수 있었다. 고용파급효과의 경우 FDI의 효과를 나타내는 외국인지분율이 유의한 양(+)의 값을 가지는 것으로 분석되었으며 외국인지분율의 계수값은 0.006〜0.007로 외국인지분율이 1%p 상승하면 기업은 고용을 0.6〜0.7% 증대시키는 것으로 분석되었다. 고용 파급효과에 대한 분석결과에 의하면 전산업 및 제조업 모두에서 전방연쇄효과만 존재하는 것으로 나타났으며 이러한 전방연쇄효과는 전산업에서보다 제조업에서 더 크게 나타났다.

This paper examine the productivity and employment spillover-effect of FDI using Korean 1,817 firm’s data from 2001 to 2010. To solve the endogeneity problem, we employed the system GMM proposed by Arellano and Bover (1995) and Blundell and Bond (1998). The results show that the foreign ownership ratio has a positive value and when the foreign ownership ratio increases by 1%p, the value added of the company increases by 0.9 to 1.4%. We can also find that Considering all industries, the effects of intra-industry and inter-industry (forward and backward linkage effects) exists. The coefficient of forward linkage effect has more than 0.12%. This fact means the value added of downstream firms increases by more than 0.12%. In the case of employment effects, the foreign ownership ratio, which indicates the effect of FDI, was found to has a significant positive value. The coefficient of foreign ownership ratio has 0.006-0.007. According to the results of employment spillover-effects, only forward linkage effect can be found in all industries and manufacturing industries, and forward linkage effect is larger in manufacturing than in all industries.
