과정중심평가의 개념과 교육적 의의 탐색

The Concept and Educational Implication of Process-focused Assessment

본 연구의 목적은 현재 초중등학교 교육의 학생평가에서 강조되고 있는 과정중심 평가의 개념을 명료화하고 이를 바탕으로 과정중심평가의 교육적 의의를 탐색하는데 있다. 이를 위해, 먼저 과정중심평가라는 용어가 등장하게 된 배경으로서 수행평가 도입 과정을 살펴보았다. 현재 과정중심평가는 2015 개정 교육과정과 자유학기제에서 정책적으로 중요하게 다루어지고 있으나 관련 연구물들에서 학교 교사들은 과정 중심평가의 개념과 실제에서의 어려움을 느끼고 있음을 보고하고 있다. 이에, 과정중심평가의 개념 명료화를 위해서 형성평가, 수행평가, 수업과 평가 통합의 개념과 비교하였다. 과정중심평가는 평가문제에 대해 학습자가 결론을 도출하는 과정과 결론을 평가하되, 과정을 보다 중점적으로 평가하는 것이다. 유사용어와의 비교를 통하여 과정중심평가의 개념을 살펴본 결과, 각각의 용어들은 구분되는 개념이지만 과정중심평가와 지향점이 유사하거나 공통되거나 연결되는 부분이 있음을 확인하였다. 과정중심평가는 형성평가와 총괄평가 모두 가능하며, 과정중심 수행평가로 실시할 수 있고, 수업과 평가의 통합을 촉진시킬 수 있다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 과정중심평가는 ‘결과 도출 과정 학습을 통한 학습 프로세스 교육’, ‘수행의 질 제고’, ‘수업과 평가의 통합’에 기여할 수 있다는 교육적 의의를 가짐을 알 수 있었다. 끝으로, 연구 결과를 종합하고 향후 논의해야 할 사항을 제안하였다.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the concept and to explore the educational implication of process-focussed assessment. For this purpose, the background for the emergence of performance assessment were introduced. And now the process-focused assessment has been more important because of the 2015 revised curriculum and free semester program in the middle school. But some researchers report that many teachers have a difficulty in understanding the concept and the practice of process-focused assessment. In order to clarify the concept of process-focused assessment, we compared the concept of formative assessment, performance assessment, and integration of instruction and assessment. The process-focussed assessment is that assessing the thinking process and conclusions of the learner about the assessment task. Through the comparison with the similar terms, the concept of the process-focussed assessment was examined. As a result, it was confirmed that each of the terms is a concept to be distinguished, but they are similar or common or connected. Process-focussed assessment can be both formative and summative, can be carried out through process-focussed performance assessment, and can facilitate the integration of instruction and assessment. And based on the results, I explored the educational implication of process-focused assessment - ‘educating learning process’, effective in enhancing the quality of performance and contributing to the integration of instruction and assessment . Finally, I synthesized the results of the research and suggested some points to be discussed in the future.
