A Study on the Function of Moral Imagination in Moral Decision Making and its Application to Moral Education

이 글에서는 도덕적 상상력이 도덕적 의사결정 과정에서 유의미한 기능을 수행할 수 있다는 점에 주목하여, 도덕적 상상력의 의미와 기능에 대해 탐색하고, 학교 도덕 교육 현장에서 도덕적 상상력을 활용한 수업 방안에 대해서 살펴보았다. 도덕적 상상력은 도덕적 문제 상황에서 공감적이고 상상적인 추론을 통해 자신의 결정이 자신과 타인에게 어떠한 영향을 미칠지 예측하고, 이를 바탕으로 해결 가능한 대안을 모색하고 평가하는 능력이라 할 수 있다. 도덕적 사태에 직면하였을 때, 도덕적 대안을 창출하고, 각각의 대안이 초래할 수 있는 예상되는 결과를 검토함으로써 대안을 평가하는 과정은 도덕적 상상력을 통해 향상될 수 있다. 학생들의 도덕적 의사결정의 질을 향상시키기 위해 문학과 영상을 수업에 활용할 수 있는데, 서사적 형식을 갖추고 있는 문학과 영상은 도덕적 상상력을 통한 도덕적 의사결정의 간접 체험 콘텐츠 혹은 도덕적 실험의 장으로서 효과적으로 기능할 수 있기 때문이다.

In this article, we explored the meaning and function of moral imagination and also the use of moral imagination at the school s moral education scene, noting that moral imagination can perform a significant function in the process of moral decision making. Moral imagination is the ability to predict and influence the decisions of self and other people through empathic and imaginative reasoning in moral problems, and to find and solve alternative solutions based on these predictions. When faced with moral situations, the process of evaluating alternatives by creating moral alternatives and reviewing the expected consequences of each alternative can be improved through moral imagination. In order to improve moral decision-making ability through moral imagination, literature and images can be used in class. Literature and images equipped with a narrative form can be effectively used as indirect experience contents of moral decision making through moral imagination, Because it can function effectively.
