장애 및 특수교육 관련 용어의 해체와 대안

Deconstructing the Terminologies and Suggesting the Alternative Terminologies Related with Disability and Special Education

이 연구의 목적은 장애 및 특수교육 관련 용어를 해체해야 하는 이유와 그 대안 용어를 제안하는 것이었다. 구체적인 연구 문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 장애 및 특수교육 관련 용어의 존재론적 의미는 무엇인가? 둘째, 장애 및 특수교육 관련 용어가 해체되어야 할 이유는 무엇인가? 셋째, 용어 해체에 따른 대안 용어는 무엇인가? 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 장애 및 특수교육 관련 용어는 보편적 교육으로부터 배제되어야만 포함되는 용어이다. 둘째, 장애는 역사적으로 축적된 차별과 태생적으로 부여된 부정적 가치로 인해 해체되는 것이 바람직하다. 더욱이 장애는 동일성 오류를 범하는 폭력적 용어이고, 이로 인 해 장애학생은 교육으로부터 배제되어 예외상태에 있는 벌거벗은 생명, 즉 호모 사케르로 존재하고 있다. 따라서 장애라는 용어에 의해 파생된 특수교육 관련 용어 역시 해체되어야 한다. 셋째, 장애 진단 시 능력 대신 필요를 기준으로 해야 하며, 이때 장애 대신 지원이라는 용어를 그리고 장애학생 대신 지원대상이라는 용어를 사용할 수 있다. 또한 특수교육은 보편성 안에서 개별성에 적합한 교육지원을 위해 개별화지원으로 용어를 전환할 수 있다. 이 연구의 결과는 미래 특수교육의 발전적 대안 모색과 바람직한 교육 체제 구축에 기여할 것으로 기대한다.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the reasons for deconstructing terminologies and to suggest the alternative terminologies related with disability and special education. The specific research questions were as follows: Firstly, what are the ontological meanings of the terminologies related with disability and special education? Secondly, what are the reasons to deconstruct the terminologies? Thirdly, what are alternative terminologies for the terminologies? The results of this study were as follows: Firstly, the terminologies are included in the education only if they are excluded from the education. Secondly, the terminologies need to be deconstructed because of historically accumulated discriminations and originally endowed negative values. Disability is the terminology which produced the identity error. Students with disabilities are Homo Sacer, naked lives excluded from the education system. Considering these reasons, all the terminologies derived from the disability need to be deconstructed. Thirdly, the‘need’ instead of the‘ability’should be used for the classification criteria of disability. And the ‘support’instead of the‘disability’need to be used and the‘students who need supports’instead of the‘students with disabilities’need to be used. Finally, the ‘individualized supports’instead of the‘special education’need to be used.
