Eliade의 히에로파니(hierophany)에 대한 고찰

The meaning of Eliade’s hierophany: Implications of moral education

본 연구는 Eliade의 개념인 히에로파니(hierophany)의 의미를 이해하여 그가 제안하는 종교적 인간의 도덕적 요소를 추출하여 도덕 교육에 주는 시사점을 확인하는 것을 주된 목적으로 진행되었다. Eliade는 비종교적인 인간이 종교적 인간으로 존재 차원의 변화를 이루는 과정에서 티오파니(theophany)에 의한 공간과 시간의 균열과 단절 경험이 먼저 일어난다고 하였다. 이러한 단절 경험 이후 인간은 신들의 시간과 천상계와의 교류능력이 생기면서 인간 스스로가 히에로파니의 존재가 되어 세계합 일의 종교적 인간으로 변모한다고 하였다. 이런 Eliade식의 종교적 인간의 변화 과정은 인간과 세계에 대한 이해의 확장을 통한 도덕적 성장과 무관하지 않으며 오히려 인간의 존재차원의 변화를 통한 보편적 도덕성의 확고한 도덕적 신념을 갖는 계기가 되는 점에서 도덕 교육의 전형적인 모습으로 볼 수도 있다.

Through deducing moral elements of religious human beings suggested by Eliade with the understanding of the meaning of hierophany, which is the concept of Eliade, the study was conducted with the main purpose of confirming what implications the moral elements have on moral education. Eliade claimed that the experience of rupture and severance of space and time takes place first due to theophany in the process of existential changes of non-religious human beings to religious human beings. The process of changes of religious human beings claimed by Eliade is not irrelevant to moral growth that takes place through greater understanding of man and the world. Rather, the process shows the typicality of moral education in that it provides an opportunity for us to have a firm moral belief about universal morality through the existential changes of human beings.
