The state effect and ceremony of early Manchukuo

The colonial state in Manchukuo spent incredible energy on inventing its own tradition. I want to argue that it is monologue out to three kinds of the discourse of the state which articulates its language, as it grows to the three directions-its own people, outside entity, and itself. Inventing tradition was not that difficult in Manchukuo. For the colonial state either copied the recently created Japanese traditions(as British colonialists in Africa imported newly made British tradition), or used the existing indigenous ritual(as British governors in India used the Mugal tradition). With its own style, the colonial state of Manchukuo tried to look like a sovereign country toward the international world which would not recognize it. The result was the contradiction of the symbolic system: There were two emperors in the Japanese empire. The state managers of Manchukuo exploited the Manchukuo emperor as a good tool against the Tokyo government.
