미요시 주로(三好十郎)의 전향 배경

Miyoshi Juro s Background of Conversion

  • 29

Most of researchers on ideological conversions occurred in prewar Japan point out that the conversion was caused mainly by the state power and secondarily by inner conflict. However, there were cases that could be evaluated that the conversion was not necessarily caused by the state. The case of Miyoshi Juro is one of such cases. I argue that the death of Miyoshi s wife was a central event that led Miyoshi to regret and reflect his earlier activities as a Marxist writer. Eventually, Miyoshi thought that it was enough to write literary works relationship with self-satisfaction regardless the notoriety. He declared that the era required “foolish” people in literary and artistic world. Also, this is the period that the rare folly fulfill foolishness. What this meant was that the struggle for human worth and value in the era could be achieved only by art of realism unlike the art subjected to the political. The belief in the power of realist description of “everydayness” caused Miyoshi s conversion in the 1930s.
