The Existential Meaning of Bodeok-guk and Wa Nation in Late 7th Century.

  • 83

In my dissertation, I argued as following; There was a political significance when Silla invested Ahn Seung with the title of King of Goguryo. First, Silla invented a momentum to make Goguryo migrants s resistance against Tang advantageous for Silla, second, it was an political action against enthroning the King of Paekje by Tang, third, it offers Silla an authority of dominating Goguryo, fourth, there was a political effect by showing Silla people that the Great King of Silla has a status to be able to enthron the king of Goguryo. In the mean time, there was a significance in the relationship between Silla and Wa. Enthroning the king of Goguryo by Silla means an established alliance between Silla and Goguryo and also it could alleviate the uncomfortable enmity with Wa which had cooperative relationship with old Goguryo. Silla made Ahn Seung inherited the amity of old Goguryo with Wa, so Silla could construct a favorable international relationship finally advantageous to Silla. Also accrediting an Goguryo envoy to Wa, Silla show up their national status to Wa. It was an action of revealing the competence of little Empire, Silla In addition to that I described above, I could make an assumption that enthroning the king of Goguryo by Silla made Wa invest Kudarano-konikisi. I also could make an assumption that the visit of Silla-Goguryo(Bodeok-guk) envoy to Japan offered a decisive motive to descrive an account about Silla-Mimana envoy in the course of compilation of Nihonshoki.
