A review of environment performance measures and its development

Environmental performance measurement is a growing concern in worldwide business environmental issues. However, Korean firms are not only lack of experiences, but also slow mover in this area of business strategies. This paper reviews recent studies on environmental performance evaluation(EPE), hoping to help Korean businesses in understanding the nature of EPE and how to manage its development and plan for long-term strategies. The fundamental concepts of EPE, its relationship with environmental reporting, types of indicators, the theory of selecting indicators, and the method of developing EPE system in an effective way based on TQM principles are discussed. The research method of this study is limited to literature review, because of the absence of real fields of Korean firms with EPE. But, it can be used as a good starting point to formulate real field studies near future, when we expect to have enough companies with EPE implementations.
