Deregulation and globalization have thrown open the competitive gates of financial services industry in Korea. Internet is becoming critical as a delivery channel and workflow engine supporting seamless exchanges between financial services companies and customers. Accordingly, the dependency of financial services industry on information technology continues to grow. It is argued that the functions of financial services institution can be defined as resource collection and distribution, payment service, and risk management. These functions are in the process of becoming more efficient, differentiated, and specialized as the advance in information technology development in financial services industry progresses. We insist that the two dimensions of information technology development streamline the value chain of the financial service institution’s functions. These two dimensions are the level of each function’s value chain integration and the level of decision-making support in the value chain. The level of the integration of value chain activities evolves through the stages of information sharing, processes automation, and knowledge networking. Also the level of decision-making support evolves through the stages of information support, modeling support, and knowledge support.
