The Effect of Women’s Participation Needs for Community Social Activities - Focusing on Seocho-Gu, Seoul -

This research aims at contributing to activation of local social welfare by studying the factors which affect women’s participation needs for community social activities. This research involves a survey conducted during a month from August 1st to August 31st, 2016 for 242 Seocho-Gu residents. Questionnaires were distributed to members of community committees as well as residents through community centers. The survey focuses on effects of variables including socio-demographic factors, community satisfaction, cognition degree of social problems, and community attachment on participation needs of community social activities. As a result, the average number of participation in community social activities of the respondents is 2.44(SD = .095). For the effects of socio-demographic factors on participation needs of community social activities, all the variables are not statistically meaningful. For the correlations among main variables, participation needs of community social activities is positively related to cognition degree of social problems(r = .244, p < .01) and community attachment(r = .174, p < .01). Based on these analyses on correlations, the effects on participation needs of community social activities by community satisfaction, cognition degree of social problems, and community attachment are the followings. Firstly, as a result of including community satisfaction variable in the model, its effect on participation needs of community social activities is not statistically meaningful. Secondly, as a result of including cognition degree of social problems variable in the first model, it explains about 6.8% factors of participation needs of community social activities. Thirdly, as a result of including community attachment variable in the second model, it explains about 10.4% factors of participation needs of community social activities thus, additionally explaining about 3.6% statistically meaningfully.
