Strategies to Foster Community Business and Social Enterprise in Local Area

Job is the starting point where a personal welfare starts. Economically active population and rate in Korea are lower than those in overall OECD countries. Low rate of female economic activity and people aged 60 and over is the main reason. Lately the Government spurs to create social enterprise and community business in local area as an effective means to draw economically inactive people out into job market. But because these projects are driven by the Government in short period of time, lots of people are worrying about negative impacts on settlement of social economy movement. This paper aims to introduce the import of social enterprise and community business and to propose successful strategies. Social enterprise is social mission-oriented organization which aims at achieving social purpose through market based approach. Otherwise community business focuses mainly on revitalizing local economies. According to the case studies, identifying clear social aims, good social entrepreneur and social business-friendly environment promise the success stories.
