Sustainable Development Strategies in accordance with Histories and Cultures of Local Cities - A Case of Gangwon Province -

This paper is designed to establish a strategy of insuring the sustainable development of local cities. Most of the small and medium-sized cities in local areas just follow the development patterns prevalent mainly around metropolitan areas. But local cities must construct identities through the land developing projects in order to survive in this global competing societies. After precise analyses on the situations of local cities, paper presents 4 policy alternatives as follows : 1. Establish mass-transportation system. 2. Activate a consistent land development plan on the basis of residents consensus. 3. Activate a natural eco-plan in accordance with the land development plan. 4. Maintain and construct a historical - cultural axis across the region
