A Study on Welfare Needs and Life Satisfaction of the Rural Aged: focused on the Seosan City

This study approaches systematically the living conditions and problems of rural aged. The first problem is to increase the roles of local government for the rural aged welfare with grasping economical, medical and emotional realities. The second is to analyze comparatively the living conditions and welfare desire of the rural aged according to family system and age. The third is to suggest an improvement on methods of the aged welfare services. As a sample survey, we set up Seosan city, a typically agriculture district, as a sample. The result is as follows. First, outbreak backgrounds of the aged problems are the conspicuous trend toward nuclear families, weakening the duty of supporting and changes of a sense of values about supporting. Second, the family in agricultural district do not carry out supporting their aged parents. Third, when people are getting old, their income is decreased. On the contrary, expense for living is increased. To solve these problems, government has to contribute suitable development and supply of rural area products for the aged. Fourth, the common problems are health problems. Even though most of them have chronic diseases, they do not get a medical treatment. Fifth, the most of the rural aged live alone nowadays. Thus, provision of meals and services of household affairs have to be propelled for them. Although the difficulties of the rural aged have been found, the specific ways do not found yet. It has to consider how to settle the matter continuously. We suggested efficient policies of social welfare for them.
