Institutional Intervention Strategies aginst Elder Abuse in Korea

Elder abuse has become a recognized of intrafamilial violence, with the abuse of elderly individuals now recognized as a serious problem that affects individuals and families at a rapidly growing rates. The multifaceted nature of elder abuse issue, which involve social, legal, and environmental matters, requires that action take place on the social and legal levels and that it involve multiple system. The purpose of this study is to examine the legal system and institutional intervention strategies against elder abuse in Korean context. To this end, this study focuses on reviewing three major aspects : the definition of the term elder abuse and types, the legislation and regulation related to elder abuse, and the importance and improvement of legal and the available social support system and services based on the institutional intervention. Finally, on the basis of these analysis, this study discussed and recommended the future direction of social support system and program of elder abuse in Korean context.
