고령화사회와 실버타운 활성화 정책에 관한 연구

A Study on the Activation of Silver Town Policy in the Aging Society

  • 39

The population of the aged has increased rapidly as our society ages and the average life span lengthens due to advances in health care. Rapid economic development and industrialization not only has promoted urbanization and nuclear families, but also has caused the collapse of traditional society and the change of our values. The housing policy for the welfare of the aged in Korea seems to be in a state of disorder. Therefore, we should make private organizations, the central government and local autonomous entities participate more actively in the field of silver town. Problems of the aged should be settled through the activation of silver town, which needs to be supported by the inflow of private capital through joint investment of private and governmental organizations. The central government should develop support policies in order to lead local autonomous entities and private businesses to participation. More realistic policies such as supporting their budgets, or giving advantages in a tax system should be established. We are required to make the aged believe that they can spend their declining years peacefully in sliver town by elevation of facilities, changing the name for the silver town to more acceptable one, and providing various information on the service for the aged.
