Effect of Fatigue Stress on the Hardness of Damaged Damping Alloy Under Fatigue Stress

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of fatigue stress and microstructure on the hardness in fatigue-damaged Fe-22Mn-12Cr-3Ni-2Si-4Co damping alloy. αʹ and ε-martensite were formed in the alloy owing to the fatigue stress. The martensite formed by the fatigue stress was formed with the specific direction and surface relief or crossing each other. With an increase in fatigue stress, the volume fraction of αʹ-martensite and ε-martensite increased,; the rate of increase of αʹ-martensite was faster than that of ε-martensite. With an increase in fatigue stress, the hardness was increased slowly first, and then rapidly by increasing the volume fraction of martensite. The hardness of the fatigue-damaged Fe-22Mn-12Cr-3Ni-2Si-4Co alloy was strongly affected in the αʹ-martensite; these results agreed with results obtained for an alloy showing the strain induced martensite transformation.
