창의적 예비영어교사 양성을 위한 전공교과목 교수방법 탐색

An exploratory study on teaching methods for English education curriculum to develop creative pre-service English teachers

창의적 교육을 통한 우수인재 양성을 위해서는 예비교원양성과정에서부터 교사의 창의적 교수역량을 함양하는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다. 이에 본 연구는 창의적 예비 영어교사 양성의 중요성을 인식하고 전공교과목 수업에서 창의성 교육이 이루어지 기 위한 교수방법을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 4년제 대학의 영어교육과에서 최근 1년간 개설된 전공교과목 31개의 수업계획서를 분석하였고, 교과목 담당교수 면담을 통해 실제 교수방법의 사용여부를 확인하였다. 또한 63명의 예비영 어교사 대상으로 창의성 교육에 대한 인식과 전공교육과정에서 경험한 창의적 교수법에 대한 인식을 설문조사하였다. 수업계획서 분석 결과, 전공교과목의 교수방법 유형 중 ‘강의’ 유형이 가장 많이 활용되었고, 그 다음으로 ‘토의/토론’, ‘실습’, ‘협동 학습’ 등이 나타났으며, ‘창의적문제해결학습’, ‘문제중심학습’ 등이 가장 적게 활용되고 있었다. 반면 예비영어교사들의 인식조사에서는 ‘창의적문제해결학습’, ‘창의적사고기법’, ‘프로젝트수업’ 등이 창의성 함양을 위한 적절한 교수방법인 것으로 나타났다. 교수방법을 통한 예비영어교사의 창의성 계발 측면에서 볼 때, 향후에는 창의적 교수방법들이 교과목 영역 간에 균형있게 활용될 필요가 있으며 확산적 사고나 문제 해결력을 신장시킬 수 있는 다양하고 혁신적인 교수방법들이 더 강화되어야 함을 알 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study is to explore teaching methods for English education curriculum to develop creative pre-service English teachers. To this end, the recent syllabi of 31 English education major courses at the department of English education in a university located in Seoul were collected. Also, a questionnaire survey was conducted to 63 pre-service English teachers at the department to find out their perception on creativity education and the perception on creativity-enhancing teaching methods they have experienced in major courses. The collected syllabi were analyzed, using the analysis framework including 14 teaching methods, whilst the answers to the survey were analyzed for frequency. From the study, it was found that ‘lecture’ type was the most frequently employed one, whilst students considered it as the least appropriate one for developing their creativity; that there was a need to vary the teaching methods in the courses, applying such types as ‘creative problem solving’, ‘creative teaching technique’, ‘project-based learning’, and ‘problem-based learning’; and that efforts need to be made to use creativity-enhancing teaching methods, especially for literature or linguistics-related courses, compared to ELT-related courses. Based on the results, some suggestions were made to have major courses conducive to developing creative pre-service English teachers.
