This paper examined university students’ English needs in the focus of English-medium instruction and English text use. A total of 1,333 students participated in an online survey that was sent to all the students in a university located in Seoul, Korea. The participant students varied in majors such as humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, medicine, and arts. Crosstab and chi-square analyses were conducted in order to examine potential group differences in majors expressed in the survey. Results indicated that most undergraduate students were likely to take EMI courses without choice in that most of them were mandatory for their academic majors. Most students expressed difficulties in listening and speaking in EMI courses. However, students demonstrated different English needs according to their academic fields in terms of taking EMI courses and English text use. Based on the present results, pedagogical implications and suggestions for more effective EAP at the university level were discussed.
