In Korean Protestantism, the terminology ‘missionary church’, much like ‘Emerging Church’ or ‘Missional Church’, is a term that is used by many members to easily recall ‘church planting’, which is linked to extension of the pre-existing church. Since such terms are flexible, the term “Fresh expressions of church” is used much less frequently than they are. Recently, however, the term ‘Fresh expressions of church’ gets a lot of attention from many people for the verification and accumulation of various successful cases and its boldness and freshness beyond preexisting churches’ boundaries, including overlapping with them. We will briefly examine the characteristics of the people who are showing the ‘Fresh expressions of church.’ In a word, they can be called pioneers. Pioneers are standing on the border; those who are putting one foot in the church and the other foot outside the church door. They lower the threshold of the church and let the yelling voices in the square come into the church.
