The purpose of this paper is to investigate the differences in language development of children with a focus on short form negation(SFN) and long form negation(LFN). The results showed that in the SFN, the participants produced more negative polarity items(NPIs) in object position than in subject position and that the younger the participants were, the more NPI responses they produced in subject position. In the LFN, however, the participants produced more NPIs in subject position than in object position and the older the participants were, the more NPI responses they produced in subject position. It is assumed that children develop from SFN to LFN as they get older.
