National Characteristics Chapter in Manzhouyuanliukao, a Relief of Traditional Culture

본고는 「만주원류고」 국속문(국속편)을 분석한 것이다. 국속문은 5분야 10조목으로 구성 되었다. 기사ㆍ관복, 정교ㆍ문자, 제례ㆍ전례, 관제ㆍ언어, 물산 잡철이다. 첫 조목은 騎射이다. 18세기 이후 청 왕조에서는 만주족 정체성의 상실이란 위기의식 속에서 國語와 기사를 중시했다. 이에 기사를 국속문의 첫 조목으로 제시했다고 판단된다. 이와 관련하여 이하의 여러 조목에서 淳風이 강조된 점이 주의된다. 순풍을 통해 자립성을 유지하고자 했는데, 이는 기사를 위한 덕목이었다. 국속문은 기사를 중심으로 순풍을 강조함으로써 만주족 정체성의 재확립을 추구했다고 이해된다. 국속문의 각 조문은 현재의 만주를 중시했지만, 그 역사는 中國正史에 입각해 서술했다. 청이 중원왕조의 정통을 계승했다는 자신감에서 중국정사를 전유했고, 만주는 역대 중원왕조 의한 ‘지역’으로 바라본 것이다. 이때 만주의 범위는 건륭제의 연구에 기초했다. 건륭제의 연구가 서술의 지침이었다. 건륭제의 연구에 부합하도록 만주족사를 기획했고 만주 국속의 시공간을 설정했다. 그리고 그에 맞추어 사료를 발췌ㆍ부회했다. 건륭제가 설정한 만주 시공간 속에서 기사를 중심으로 한 순풍을 浮彫한 것이다.

This article analyzes national characteristics chapter ( 國俗門 ) in Manzhouyuanliukao . This chapter is composed of 5 realms and 10 articles. The first article is horse-riding and archery( 騎射 ) . Since the 18th century, the Qing dynasty put emphasis on the horse-riding and archery as a core of identity in the crisis consciousness of loss of Manchus identity. This is considered to be the reason for presenting horse-riding and archery as the first article. In this regard, it is noteworthy that the following several articles emphasizes the naive morals and manners ( 淳風 ) ; it emphasizes the independence of Manchus, and was a virtue for the horse-riding and archery. National characteristics chapter tried to reestablish the identity of Manchus by emphasizing the naive morals and manner with horse-riding and archery as the center. Each article sets a high value on the present Manchuria while describing its history based on Chinese official historiography ( 中國正史 ) . It appropriates Chinese official historiography with the confidence that Qing succeeded the legitimacy of China plain dynasty ( 中原王朝 ) , and regards Manchuria as a “region” throughout successive generations of China plain dynasty. The scope of Manchuria was based on the study of Emperor Qianlong in this context. His study was a guideline for the description. Manchus history was planned in accordance with the study of Emperor Qianlong, and the time and space of Manchuria s national characteristics was established. Therefore, it was extracted according to the time and space set by Emperor Qianlong even though the context of the historical record could be distorted. Through the time and space of Manchuria set by Emperor Qianyang, naive morals and manners centering on horse-riding and archery was carved in relief.
