울산의 청동기시대 취락과 창평동 환호 유적

The Bronze Age Settlement in Ulsan and the Changpyeong-dong site

창평동 환호 유적은 울산광역시 창평동 일대에 위치한다. 총 3개 지점 중 청동기시대의 유구는 대부분 A구역에서 확인되었다. 다른 지점의 유구로는 B구역에서 조사된 주거지 1기가 유일하다. A구역은 동-서 방향으로 뻗은 구릉의 아래쪽 끝자락에 해당하는데, 그 앞으로 비교 적 넓은 평지가 펼쳐져 있다. 조사된 청동기시대의 유구는 평면 타원형의 환호와 함께 주거지 3기, 소형 수혈유구 35기 등이다. 주거지 1기를 제외하면 나머지 유구들은 모두 환호 내부 공간에 자리하며 유구 사이의 중복 축조도 없다. 환호는 거의 완전한 형태를 이루는데, 특히 내부 공간에 분포하는 수혈유구들이 환호의 성격을 살펴볼 수 있는 자료로서 주목된다. 유구와 유물에 대한 분석 결과 유적의 시기는 청동기시대 후기에 해당하는 것으로 판단된다. 전형적인 울산식 주거지와 환호의 존재, 낟알문과 꼭지형 파수부 토기, 일단병식 석검, 삼각형에 가까운 개량형 석도, 횡단면 타원형의 합인석부, 유구석부와 발전형 편평편인석부, 단추형 원통형 구슬형의 토제 어망추 등은 모두 후기를 나타내는 표지 형식들이다. 한편, 유적의 성격에 대해서는 환호 내부 공간에 소수의 주거지와 다수의 수혈유구가 분포하는 점, 유물의 의도적 훼손과 비정상적 폐기 과정, 불과 관련된 행위의 존재 등을 볼 때 의례와 관련된 것으로 추정된다. 특히 주변에서 잘 보이는 돌출된 구릉에 위치하는 점을 감안하면 여러 취락의 공동 제의 공간으로 이용되었을 가능성이 있으며, 가시권에 포함된 주변 유적과의 복합체를 한 단위의 거점 취락으로 상정하는 것도 가능하다.

The Changpyeong-dong enclosure site is located in the Ulsan city. Most of the archaeological features were excavated in the location A, one of the three areas of the excavation. Only one dwelling pit was found other than in location A; the dwelling pit found in the location B. The location A is located at the lower part of hill running east to west, facing relatively large flat plain. The excavated features consist of an oval shaped enclosure, three dwelling pits, 35 small pits and others. Except one dwelling pit, every features are located inside the enclosure, without any overlapping. The enclosure is almost intact and has importance to understand the relationships between the enclosure ditch and small pits inside. As a result of the analysis on archaeological features and artefacts, the time period of this site is revealed to be the Late Bronze Age. Typical Ulsan-style dwelling pits and the existence of enclosure, pressing patterns and knob-shaped handles on pottery, straight hilted stone daggers, triangle like shaped harvesting stone knives, stone axes with oval shaped cross section and grooved stone adzes, developed type stone adzes as well as various type of clay net sinker are all considered to belong to this period. This site seems to be related to some ritual behaviour, based on the fact that only two houses were built inside the enclosure whereas much more small pits were dug, or intentionally deposited artefacts as well as the trace of fire using. In addition, the location of the site which enable the residents look around the landscape widely, this site was a core of the wider networks of several settlements in this area.
