19세기 대축척조선전도의 제주도 하천 묘사 변화 연구

A Study on Jeju Island River Channels in Large-scale Old Maps in 19th Century : Focusing on 『Daedongyeojido(大東輿地圖, 1861)』

이 연구는 19세기 제작된 대축척조선전도의 제주도 지도에 묘사된 하천 유로와 지명의 비교 분석을 통해, 18세기의 20리방안 군현지도부터 19세기의 필사본 조선전도를 거쳐 (목판본)『대동여지도』로 이행되면서 나타난 지리정보의 편집 과정을 파악하였다. 하천 유로와 기재 지명을 볼 때 이들 지도는 3가지 유형으로 나타났다. 첫째 유형은 제주도에 20곳 내외의 유로와 4곳에 지명이 기재된 지도이다. 이에는 『조선팔도지도』와 『청구도』가 해당된다. 둘째 유형은 30곳 내외의 유로가 그려지고 그 중 4곳에 지명이 기재된 지도로 『동국팔로분지도』와 (필사본)『대동여지도』가 속한다. 셋째 유형은 유로 수는 둘째 유형과 유사하나 지명이 14곳에 기재된 지도이다. 이에는 『동여도』와 『대동여지도』가 속한다. 『대동여지도』에 추가된 하천 지명은 대부분 지리지에 근거를 두고 있다. (필사본)『대동여지도』가 목판본 지도와 유사한 것은 이 지도가 책자식에서 분첩식으로 이행되는 과정에서 제작된 것임을 보여준다. 『대동여지도』가 이전 지도에 비해 하천 내용이 상세해지는 것은 사회에서 실용성을 추구하기 위해 제작되었음을 시사한다.

In this study, the changes of river channels and geographical names of Jeju Island on large-scale old maps in the 19th century based on 20-ri grids were analyzed in order to understand how geographical information is edited from mauncript to wooden-plate edition. The results of the analyses revealed three types of maps. On the type of 『Joseonpaldojido(朝鮮八道地圖)』and 『Cheonggudo(靑邱圖)』, about 21 channels were described with 4 river names. On the other type, such as 『Donggukpalrobunjido(東國八路分地圖)』and 『Daedongyeojido (manuscript, (筆寫本大東輿地圖)』, about 30 channels with 4 river names were described. On the third type, such as 『Dongyeodo(東輿圖)』 and 『Daedongyeojido (木板本大東輿地圖』), 14 river names were written. Most of names added on those maps were based on the historical geography. Those differences were the result of revising and supplementing the geographical information of river channels in the process of editing and change of binding systems. Among old maps, 『Daedongyeojido(manuscript)』which is compiled by 18 folders, has the key role in the development of maps. River channels on this map were described on 『Dongyeodo』with added river names. 『Daedongyeojido(wooden)』based on 『Dongyeodo』was made to share the geographical information widely in the society.
