예수의 십자가와 하나님의 새로운 가족(요 19:25-27)

Jesus’ Cross and God’s New Family in John 19:25-27

십자가에서 예수께서 그의 어머니와 사랑하시는 아들을 모자 관계로 연결한 사건은 그동안 다양한 해석을 낳았다. 초대교회에서 예수의 어머니가 가지는 특별한 위치를 나타낸다고 말하는 학자들이 있다. 또한 유대인 교회와 이방인 교회의 연합을 보여주는 상징적 사건이라고도 한다. 그러나 예수의 어머니와 사랑하시는 제자의 모자 관계는 제자와 제자가 십자가에서 하나님의 새로운 가족으로 편입된다는 것을 보여주는데, 그 이유는 다음과 같다. (1)예수께서는 그의 어머니를 “여자여”라고 부르시면서 그녀를 어머니가 아니라 제자로 보신다. 십자가는 제자와 제자가 새로운 하나님의 가족이 되는 사건이다. (2)하나님의 가족은 요한복음을 대표하는 교회론이다. 하나님 아버지, 독생자 예수, 그리고 하나님의 자녀로 구성되는 하나님의 새로운 가족의 모습이 요한복음에 나타난다. 십자가는 그러한 하나님의 새로운 가족의 출발점이다. (3)십자가와 부활 사건은 요한복음에서 새 창조 모티프들이 드러나는 가장 대표적인 곳이다. 하나님의 새로운 가족의 창조는 새 창조의 중요한 요소이다. 첫 창조에서 가족이 시작되었듯이, 새 창조에도 새로운 가족이 시작된다. 이러한 이유로 십자가에서 그의 어머니와 사랑하시는 제자를 모자 관계로 연결시킨 것은 하나님의 새로운 가족을 출발시키시는 예수의 새 창조 사역의 한 부분이라 할 수 있다.

Why did Jesus connect his mother with the beloved disciple as a family on the cross? It has been diversly interpreted among the Johannine scholars. Some say it shows the special position of Jesus’ mother in the early churches. Others say it means the unity of the Jewish church and the Gentile church. However, Jesus’ connection signifies the beginning of God’s new family through his death. The following reasons support this thesis. (1)The fact that Jesus on the cross calls his mother “woman” shows he deals with her, not as his mother but as his disciple. The cross is where two disciples meet as God’s new family. (2)The family of God is a representative ecclesiology in the Gospel of John. The family of God consists of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the children of God. The cross is where God’s new family starts. (3)The cross and resurrection present the motifs of new creation most clearly in the Gospel of John. The family of God is a significant element of new creation. Just as the human family began in the first creation, so the divine family begins in the new creation as well. For these reasons, it is most probably that Jesus’ connection on the cross between his mother and the beloved disciple as a family means the beginning of God’s new family as a part of Jesus’ new creation ministry.
