Study of the Companionship among Buddhist Monks and Confucian Scholars in Gangjin and Haenam Province under the Influence of Dasan : Focusing on Interpreting Garyeonyusa
Dasan Jung Yakyong in his exile period built an academic circle with his students called Dasingye. Members of Dasingye, which had been formed in 1818, were Buddhist monks and Confucianists, who shared companionship. In their relationship, tea was the social catalyst. In the winter of 1818, Yoon Jongyoung, a member of Dasingye, invited both monks and scholars and threw a poetry party. The next year, another member of Dasingye, Yoon Jongsim, hosted the second poetry party. The two parties showed indiscriminate social interactions between Buddhists and Confucianists. Garyeonyusa is a collection of poetry that was presented at these parties. By interpreting the book, Dasan’s impact on the companionship mong monks and Confucian scholars in Ganjin and Haenam province can be reviewed.
